How Aoife evolved - from a short story to a novel

Aoife is the first character who came to me when I began writing Secrets of the Land. In fact, I had been writing stories using a similar character for a long time before the novel came into existence. A young girl featured in my short story Don’t Look Back, which is included in the anthology, Best New Zealand Fiction, Volume 6, edited by Owen Marshall and published by Random House New Zealand in 2009.

Her story sits in the anthology alongside others by well known  New Zealand writers including Tina Shaw, Charlotte Grimshaw, Carl Nixon, Graeme Lay, Vincent O’Sullivan and Elizabeth Smither.

Copies of the book can be found in many New Zealand libraries.
